Prior to shooting features, Andrew cut his teeth on music videos and commercials. He was often director and editor on those projects, honing multiple filmmaking skills in the process. He attributes much of his strength as a cinematographer to working on micro-budgeted/micro-scheduled projects, and for having spent time in the cutting room.
Recent feature credits include the western Shadowheart for director Dean Alioto, the dark comedy (818) for director Bob King, and the Warner Bros. produced Believers for director Daniel Myrick. His narrative work has been featured at such festivals as Sundance, LAIFF, Tribecca, Austin, and Houston-Worldfest. He shot Crashing, starring Campbell Scott and Alex Kingston, for director Gary Walkow, which opened at Slamdance in 2007.
Andrew continues to shoot commercials and music promos, some of which has been showcased at the AICP show and MOMA in New York. In 2000, he garnered the American Society of Cinematographers Heritage Award.
He is well versed in the post side of cinematography, and has experience in color grading and D.I. (digital intermediate) finishing. He has personally graded three features on which he was also DP, along with some shorts films and commercials. He views the relationship as identical to that of photographer and darkroom.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andrew got his start shooting for local television. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in film production, and currently resides in Los Angeles.
